On February 8, 1961, Sisters Maria da Glória Vasconcelos, Clementina Batalha and Maria Regina Melo arrived at the recently established city of Brasilia, the new capital of Brazil.
On August 15, 1961, the cornerstone of Sacred Heart of Mary School was laid as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Institute of Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Brazil (IRSCMB).
Sacred Heart of Mary School was opened on February 24, 1962, under the name Sacré Coeur de Marie Gymnasium. And in March of the same year, classes began.
Currently, Sacred Heart of Mary School – Brasília has 1,500 students, aged between 1 and 17 years, in the divisions of Early Childhood (primary school), Fundamental I, Fundamental II (elementary school) and Secondary Education (high school).
The school is one of the largest in the city, and is considered among the best in Brasilia.
